i just woke up and wrote the following open letters to whomever came to mind. it's unedited and raw and might end up in applesauce at some point but i just wanted to get it OUT so here it goes...
Dear poor disenfranchised white people:
It has come to my attention that you're to be the new “niggas,” so on behalf of those of us who have long been disenfranchised I welcome you. Your pain will get deeper as you realize the lies you’ve been fed, but the cool pay off is that your music will get better.
As for terrorism, well. I can tell you about terrorism cause we have been terrorized for centuries: churches bombed, houses bombed, all kids of shit has happed right here. We've been even taken out of our free homes and hung by terrorists. We were lulled for a moment into yellow alert during Clinton but we are back to red so here are some tips to get you through the rough stuff:
#1 prepare to get searched at more that just the airports.
#2 you will notice the words “chase” and “MASTERcard” will have new meanings for you.
#3 buy new shoes. there will be some marching to do as they take away more of your rights.
#4 Having had guns pulled on me in the past by police for no reason, and having been put in jail for NO REASON before, all I can tell you is if the cops come after you don’t run! And what ever you do don’t pull out your wallet to identify yourself. Being poor is the crime & you're already guilty.
Dear people of color, particularly black Americans
#1 we need to stop watching TV
#2 let's all please stop acting like we were ever considered Americans. When I heard them talking about gays in the debates I felt like they were talking about blacks. People who were gay were reduced to “THEY”
#3 let's stop saying shit's about to get crazy… shits
been crazy. Historically, we just got out of slavery last week.
#4 and 5 let's please stop calling Bill Clinton BLACK and let's not act like brown people across the world didn’t catch hell during his administration. Rwanda, Haiti, Jamaica, Guyana… shall I go on? Remember the privatizing and building of jails and the prison industrial complex.
#6 and 7 Lets not act like they counted our votes last time or like Welfare To Work, worked.
#8 Let's not act like either one of those 2 unfathomably rich white men who belong to the same secret society/fraternity (one of which is married to a African colonialist) gives a fuck about the state of people of color in this country. They are both proud killers. Do you think that in those prayers that GW prays he prays for us?
In the debates his vice president Chaney had no clue that fastest growing demographic of people contracting HIV are black women; nor did he seem to really give a fuck. Most men that are in prison are black men and the country that has the most people in jail is…hmm lets see… could it be… Iraq? France? Japan? No? AMERICA!! Is the correct answer. We do it cause we love freedom.
There is so much doing to do. But something has to happen, we have to agree to see things as they are. Let’s be clear. Voting is not a revolutionary act. Neither is writing this corny ass letter. We need to build ya’ll, get at me. I will always love you. Stay focused.
…PS guess whose sons and daughters are going to be drafted first and put on the front line?
Dear rich people:
You are officially a class of people and a minority. And the way you thought about minorities in the past is how the majority will think of you now. Common misconceptions are that you are lazy, hate to work, don’t read or care about your environment. You love watermelon, you're savages, and you are all thieves and liars.
Having been a “minority” all I can say is don’t let the watermelon thing get to you. truth be told, I eat an occasional slice with a twist of lime. It's refreshing.
To our troops:
I’m sorry. I tried, I voted. I love you and want to see you home. no matter how cynical or sarcastic I get, I know ya’ll are catching the do-do end of the stick. Though I think the stick is covered with poop all over at this point, but you are definitely on the do-doer end. War is no fun and we often check our site stats or get an occasional letter from someone with a relative out there who checks out this site when ever he or she can. And I hope that it brings you some light and a piece of home and sanity. I'll be shouting ya’ll out a lot more now and from those of you who can, feel free to write back. I encourage you to do so. Let me be clear. I think war is some bullshit that if rich folks had to fight there would be peace on earth like a muthafucka but it's not so. Are you are there instead of Bush and congress and the house and these suited liars. And I hate that but I want to see you back in one piece and as sane as you can be. If you didn’t hear it today… I love you. yeah you muthafucka!
