Ok so I don’t know how to feel. When I found out that a black woman wrote the book that “The matrix” (and the subsequent sequels) were based on, it made total sense. I wonder if she imagined Keanu Reves playing “the one” in a Hollywood sci-fi movie so uncharacteristically cast with so many black folks. She also wrote the basis for The Terminator (and subsequent sequels) and didn’t get credit - or a dime - for that, either. I wonder if it was written in her script that the only black person in the trilogy with any lines happens to be the scientist responsible for the technology that destroys humanity.
Sophia Stewart answered an ad calling for new science fiction material. Years later, she sees her work on the screen. After six long years in court, she stands to receive like the biggest payoff in the history of Hollywood... revenues from the six films are over 2.5 billion. However I really don’t know if they can ever give her the proper reparations. They made BILLIONS off those movies and their sequels. She made tons of people rich and helped shape popular culture, while she continued to struggle as a writer with no recognition. Do you think they are going to recall all the Terminator and Matrix movies to add her name to the credits? Do you think they will call her in to add her commentary to the DVDs? Do the Wichousky brothers who (according to most claims) tried to edit the Matrix movies to make it less obvious that it was a stolen piece of material, lose their jobs or credibility as directors? Will anyone loose their job over this? No. Ms Stewart will just get a piece of the pie that she CREATED and probably end up a whimsical footnote to those nerds who care to look.
